Martin Scorsese is to film `The Invention of Hugo Cabret` in 3-D.
The Oscar-winning director will shoot the movie, based on Brian Selznick`s children`s book of the same name, in London from June, according to Variety.
It is the first time Scorsese has made a children`s movie and the first time he has shot in 3-D.
Scorsese`s `The Aviator` screenwriter John Logan penned the adaptation.
The movie tells the tale of 12-year-old Hugo - an orphaned boy in 1930s Paris who lives on a train station and hopes to solve the mystery of a broken robot.
`Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang` star Asa Butterfield will play the titular character, with Sacha Baron Cohen and Ben Kingsley also set to star.
New York-born Scorsese has a number of films coming up following on from thriller `Shutter Island` - including a biopic on the life of Frank Sinatra due for release next year.
The `Invention of Hugo Cabret` is set to hit cinema screens in December 2011.
